Here we have a comprehensive list of our most frequently asked questions regarding everything from tour information, what to wear, tour meeting points and company policies. If by chance the answer to your question is not listed below, please feel free to contact one of our friendly staff members either by phone or by email.

FLORENCE

We ask that all customers bring photo ID, such as your passport, as well as your Explore Italy Tours confirmation email. For tours that require a bit of walking, comfortable shoes are recommended. For summer tours (May to September), you should bring sunscreen, a water bottle, and a hat/umbrella for shade. During the cooler months (October to April) it’s a good idea to bring a jacket and umbrella.

Full details of the exact location are included on the confirmation voucher you will receive when you book your tour, including details of hotel pick-up if relevant.

General FAQ's

If your tour includes visiting a church or the catacombs, men and women must cover their shoulders and knees. As the summer months can be too hot to wear pants or a long-sleeved shirt, we recommend you bring a light cardigan or sarong to wrap around you that you can remove again after your tour.

This generally depends on the tour site itself. Please contact our Travel Team either by phone or email to check that the tour is stroller/pram friendly.

This usually depends on the actual tour site accessibility. If you are interested in booking a group or private tour and will needing wheelchair accessibility, please contact our Travel Team by phone or email so that we can ensure the tour you choose is wheelchair accessible.

This simply means that any tour you book already includes your tickets, reservation and entrance fees, taxes, and anything else listed on the website for that particular tour. Wine tasting tours already include transportation and, of course, wine sampling (yipee!).

Generally each tour must have at least two people to run.

For some tours we are able to offer reduced rates for children and students! This often depends on the ticket rates given by the attractions. If reduced rates apply, they can be seen on our website on each tour page.

Advanced bookings are necessary to join a tour group. Our groups have a limited number of guests allowed and we may not have space for you on that particular tour. As guides cannot take payments on-site, if you would like to book a last-minute tour, please try first to book online or feel free to call or email us to arrange your tour.

We can if we have availabilities! Please first try to book your tour online, but if the website states there are no availabilities, please call or email us so we can see if we can arrange another guide.

As our tour group sizes are limited to make for more personal tours, it’s a good idea to book as soon as you know you’re coming to Italy. Many of our tours book out months in advance, but some standard tours like the Colosseum or Vatican might still have availabilities a few days beforehand. If you are wanting to book a last-minute tour, please first try to book online, otherwise you can email us to arrange a private tour.

It’s a good idea to print and bring along your confirmation email as it includes information about the meeting point and a map to help you get there. It also includes a contact number should you need it. If you have this information with you saved on your phone, however, it’s not necessary to print it out.

You don’t need to call to confirm if you have booked online and received a confirmation email from us. This will automatically put you on our list for the tour you booked so we know you’re coming!

We accept all major credit cards or PayPal.

We’ve made the website booking process fast and easy to make it easy for you to book your services. However, if you’d like a bit of help with the process you can call or email us at info@exploreitalytours.com and we’d be more than happy to be of assistance.

Restaurants: It’s not necessary to tip at restaurants. Though if you were really happy with the service or if it’s easier to round up, it is completely normal to tip a small amount. But take a look at your bill – sometimes tip is included in a service charge or bread charge called a “coperto”.

Cafe’s: In Italy it’s customary to leave behind 10-50 Euro cents when your order a coffee at the standing bar. Look around and you’ll often see locals leave a few small coins on their receipt at the coffee bar.

Tour Guides: Though it’s not mandatory, it’s always appreciated to leave a tip if you feel your guide has done a great job and has really taken care of you on your tour.

Of course! This is our pleasure! Our guides and staff all live in Italy and are proud to share their favourite (and often top secret) restaurants with you.

Yes. We cater to the English-speaking client base only, therefore all tours and communication will be in English.

Please note that we ask all guests to arrive at the tour meeting point at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time of their tour. If you have difficulty finding the meeting point or are delayed along the way, please call the emergency phone number, (Italy) +39 329 603 6719.

Our small group tours are run at set times and therefore cannot be changed. We could always offer you a private tour at an alternative time. Please email us if you would like to request a private tour or custom itinerary.

It depends on what style you like. We are not like other companies that over sell their tours and have huge groups. We keep our tour groups small at 8 people so it’s like a private tour anyway. It may just depend if you can fit your group onto a group tour. If you prefer just to have your group and the guide all to yourselves, choose a private tour.

Private tour groups consist of your party/group & your own private guide. A small group tour is when you will join a tour that is open to other Explore Italy Tours travellers. Small Group tours vary in size up to 8 people per group, depending on the tour.

TUSCANY

Our Rome Food Tour can be tailored to suit most dietary requirements so long as you give us enough notice to prepare. While we will do our best to accommodate guests with food preferences or allergies, please note that it will not always be possible to make a substitution – for example, bread, meat, and cheese will always be on the tour and tastings cannot be substituted. For guests with severe food allergies, we recommend not taking a food tour and being very careful with all food in Italy, which isn’t always labeled to US or Australian standards.
